Shimano Stephano Limited
The Shimano Stephano Limited is a flagship boat fishing rod series dedicated to Japanese filefish (Kawahagi), engineered to achieve exceptional lightness, sensitivity and versatility. Designed as a premium all-round platform for modern technical filefish fishing, it combines outstanding tactile feedback with precise visual bite detection, allowing anglers to recognize subtle underwater activity, control their presentations and determine the ideal moment to set the hook.
At the heart of the series is Shimano's Taftec Infinity carbon solid tip, reinforced with Hi-Power X Solid construction. Fine carbon tape is wrapped around the solid section in an X pattern to suppress unwanted vibration and power loss while preserving delicate bending characteristics and natural bite acceptance.
Shimano reports that Taftec Infinity achieves three times the bending strength and five times the bending capacity of a conventional solid tip under its comparative testing conditions. The lightweight Spiral X Core blank enhances torsional and crushing resistance while delivering crisp, direct control.
An increased number of Shimano X Guides around the tip reduces line tangling, improves line release and supports accurate casting, even in windy conditions. The distinctive gold-colored top guide provides a clear visual reference when monitoring minute tip movements.
Titanium-frame SiC guides are used from the middle section toward the butt, with double-foot guides in three lower positions for additional durability. The X Seat Front Trigger reel seat, combined with Fitting Support CI4+, allows anglers to choose between different finger positions for secure palming, millimeter-level rig manipulation and comfortable retrieval.
Aero Coat finishing contributes to the lightweight, highly responsive feel. The series features a one-piece construction and an 8:2 action, with two complementary models offering different sensitivity priorities.
The M175 is a visual-sensitivity-oriented all-rounder with a particularly supple carbon solid tip. It minimizes resistance when cautious filefish take the bait, clearly displays subtle bites and gives anglers time to confirm the bite before striking.
Its balanced design performs across suspended presentations, zero-tension techniques and bottom fishing with attractors or intermediate sinkers. The MH175, introduced for summer 2026, is a tactile-sensitivity-oriented all-rounder that emphasizes immediate transmission of underwater signals to the angler's hand.
Its carefully tuned tip retains enough flexibility to display delicate bites and provide a short pause before hooksetting, avoiding the excessive stiffness associated with some highly tactile rods. It is particularly effective when fish contact the bait quickly, when fishing deeper water or when anglers prefer a more proactive approach.
Both models are designed to cover a broad range of conditions, from fishing with the sinker suspended above the seabed to presentations with the sinker resting on the bottom. The Stephano Limited combines refined construction, ergonomic control and exceptional sensitivity to provide a versatile reference rod for demanding filefish anglers.
